Scientific Award for Ruedi Lüthy

At the opening of the 17th European Aids Conference in Basel Ruedi Lüthy received the "Award for Excellence in HIV Medicine 2019". The EACS European AIDS Clinical Society rewarded Ruedi Lüthy for his engagement against HIV/Aids. "This Award is a great honor", says Ruedi Lüthy, founder of the Ruedi Lüthy Foundation.

The EACS European AIDS Clinical Society presented the "Award for Excellence in HIV Medicine 2019" to Ruedi Lüthy. This in acknowledgement of his engagement against HIV/Aids. Ruedi Lüthy couldn’t receive the award in person. At the time of the event he was staying in Harare. This is why he presented his sincere thanks in a video:
"In the past 16 years I spent most of my time in Harare where I started a clinic for destitute patients living with HIV at a time when the vast majority of the population had no access to antiretrovirals. Our Swiss Foundation provides the funds that a team of local doctors and nurses can provide free and comprehensive care to over 6500 children and adults. In addition, every year we train about 800 nurses and doctors from all over Zimbabwe and the neighbouring countries in HIV management courses.
It has been the most satisfying time of my professional life: I am privileged to see how emaciated, very sick patients become strong again and who regain confidence in their life. It is the most rewarding gift for me as a physician. "
