Last autumn Rumbidzai's home turned into a filmset. She performed the leading role and talked about her dream. Our CEO Sabine Lüthy was also there. Both women immediately felt connected to each other. «Rumbidzai's story moved me deeply», said Sabine Lüthy. «Even though a lot went wrong in her life she never lost her spark.»

“The events of recent days have forged us even more closely together as a team”

Matthias Widmaier, Administrative Director of Newlands Clinic, reports in an interview how the situation in Zimbabwe is affecting clinic operations.


Protests in Zimbabwe: limited clinic services

Sparked by the doubling of petrol and diesel prices, protests have been ongoing since this morning in a number of towns and cities in Zimbabwe. Some of these protests have become violent. Many residents of Harare have also been protesting against the government's economic policy.


Swiss TV broadcasts visit at Newlands Clinic

Swiss TV's news programme reported Swiss Federal Councillor Cassis' visit at Newlands Clinic in Zimbabwe on 9 January. «It's impressive – both the work that is done as well as its success rate", he said after the tour.

“For a Federal Councillor to visit our clinic is a huge honour”

The Newlands Clinic team will not forget 9 January 2019 any time soon, as it was the day that Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis toured our clinic in Harare as part of his visit to southern Africa. The foreign minister appeared impressed, and emphasised the important contribution that Newlands Clinic is making to the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Medical Doctors’ Ball donates CHF 10,000

The Medical Doctors’ Ball held on 17 November in Lucerne collected donations for our foundation for the 16th year running. Stefan Zimmerli, and our Chief Executive Sabine Lüthy accepted a cheque for CHF 10,000. Our heartfelt thanks go to the organisers and guests for a wonderful evening and their long-standing support!

Zimbabwe Elections: Newlands Clinic operates normally

After the violent protests following this week’s elections in Zimbabwe, the situation in the capital, Harare, is calmer at present. Police are still patrolling the streets. Newlands Clinic is open for patients and is operating normally.



Newlands Clinic was represented at the International AIDS Conference in Amsterdam!

Our staff members Cleo Chimbetete, Tinei Shamu, Sandra Bote and Bahati Kasimonje presented results on different studies conducted on Mortality Trends among HIV-patients as well as the positive impact group counselling has on adherence in adolescent patients.
