Protests in Zimbabwe: limited clinic services

Sparked by the doubling of petrol and diesel prices, protests have been ongoing since this morning in a number of towns and cities in Zimbabwe. Some of these protests have become violent. Many residents of Harare have also been protesting against the government's economic policy.

Newlands Clinic is not directly affected by the clashes, as it is located in a quiet residential area outside of the city centre.

However, road blocks and demonstrations have made it impossible for large number of our patients to keep their appointments at the clinic. We therefore decided to close the clinic today at 1.00 pm, and are planning only limited services tomorrow, Tuesday, 15 January 2019.

We are in close contact with the local SDC office and the Swiss embassy in Harare, and are assessing the situation on an ongoing basis. We will not waver from the principle that the safety of our patients and staff is our highest priority.
